Vegas & Joshua Tree

Trip on a budget? That was our goal initially. Vegas seems to be an inexpensive way to fly to the wast coast, in the end it wasn’t, but it actually ended up turning into one of my most favorite adventures.
Planning at the start was difficult, neither Alis nor I wanted to go to Vegas for the things it is known for. Don’t like drinking, being out late or gambling. The goal instead was finding somewhere affordable that was an escape from Chicago’s chilly temps. Somewhere warm where we could spend time outside. West coast sounded like the perfect place.
Well, first problem we ran into, was that Vegas was not much warmer in the spring than Chicago. Actually, it turned out to be warmer in Chicago.
We tried to enjoy time at the pool. But temps kept dropping. Then there was a sand storm. A full day where we were unable to make the most of our escape, and couldn’t do some of the few touristy things we had planned for Vegas.
Then I got an idea, road trip? We rented a car last minute and got starred on road trip to Joshua Tree National Park. My first ever national park.
This was the first road trip a 6 hour drive (also last minute) to northern Michigan (and back) from Chicago.
This one was just under four hours, that wasn’t so bad. The only difference was that it was mostly through desert or abandoned small towns.
Tbh I was not sure what to expect, I was a little nervous… and the posted warnings about the dangers of hiking in this area. But forgot about it as soon as we got into the park, bc it was so fkn beautiful there.
